Rambunctious

2012-12-01 Rams Luncheon

After some spirited discussion, Wayne Beach reported that due to permitting issues, there had been no progress made in the construction of the mounting pad for "Rambunctious". However, he is thinking that those issues will soon be resolved, and construction should begin in the very near future.

December 18, 2012

Construction was started today on the pad for Rambunctious.....

December 20, 2012

Today when I visited Rutherford, they had removed the necessary dirt, and had completed the form work, and unless they are going to install re-bar, are ready to pour concrete. Mr. Pilson (Rutherford's Principal) is not aware of any completion date for this project.

January ?? 2013

Sometime in January, they poured the initial (bottom) slab.

February 4, 2013

Today they poured the pedestal slap.

February 14, 2013

Rambunctious was set in place this morning. This thing is going to look fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All of our classmates should be very proud...........

Thanks to six of Rutherford's football players for providing the manpower.

I am now working on "Plan B" in procuring a plaque. Plan "A" will not return my calls for some reason. I hope to have the plaque in place by the end of February, and then We will have a permanent photo for our "Home" page.

I ordered the plaque today. It should be installed in-place in the very near future. It is going to be made of a very high gloss black marble, with RAMBUNCTIOUS presented by the "CLASS OF 64" etched on it. It too should look very nice.

Mr. Pilson (Rutherford's Principal) plans to have a dedication ceremony with TV and Newspaper coverage in the not to distant future ( a big "to do" in PC). I will post the date of the ceremony, and any other information, on this page, as well as send out emails.

The plaque was installed in-place today. It also looks very nice, you can check it out on the slideshow at the bottom of our homepage.

March 26, 2013 "Coming Clean"

After the Ram's Luncheon of August 6th, Wayne Beach mentioned a large ram figurine he had seen while on a trip in Jasper, GA. We had previously talked about doing something for RHS. I agreed with him in that if we were ever going to do anything for our school, it needed to be done in the near future. After seeing some photos of the ram that Wayne said had a price tag of $1800, and doing some basic cost estimating, this worthy project probably could be done on a budget of less than $3000. This would include the ram (and transport back to PC), the plaque, and the concrete slab (plus labor). Wayne said he thought he could get a better price with a little serious negotiating.

My Agenda:

1-I could participate (with those who wanted to) in procuring a permanent mascot for Rutherford from the first graduating class.

2-Perhaps this would stimulate the attendance at our Rams Luncheons.

3-I could help create a perpetual tribute to Coach Ted Cooper.

It was soon made abundantly clear that not everyone thought as much of Mr. Cooper as I, and that my agenda (or parts of) made some of our classmates very angry. For this I apologize.

For the record:

The total cost of the ram: $1444.50

The total cost of the plaque: $400

The School Board had their engineers to calculate the wind load factor of the ram, and then constructed the slab to their specifications. They assumed the cost of the slab.

The total cost of the project came to $1844.50. At this time I have received $904.50 in contributions.

April 1, 2013 Total Contributions are now at $1054.50.

April 5, 2013 Total Contributions are now at $1084.50

April 8, 2013 Total Contributions are now at $1184.50

April 13, 2013 Total Contributions are now at $1844.50 (our goal) Thanks to all that contributed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Personally, I was very pleased with the appearance, speed of construction, and cost of this project. It is something I would think every classmate could be extremely proud of.
